This story was something I kept seeing show up on Good Reads and Amazon and figured I'd give it a try. It is a sweet story told over the course of Four Summers (Hence the Title) about 2 teenagers in love and can't seem to get it right. The story revolves around Charlotte (Charlie Rae) and Nathaniel (Nate) when Nate's family comes to vacation at The Village which is owned and operated by Charlotte's family. Charlotte feels trapped at The Village and doomed to take it over for her family, her older "perfect" sister and her mother want nothing but to leave The Village (as does Charlotte) but someone has to take on the burden and help her father so she has come to terms that she will be stuck there forever. Charlotte never becomes friends or hangs out with the summer people, but on first sight of Nathaniel coming out of his parents car, she knew he was different. The first summer is in Charlotte's point of view and she's dealing with feelings for a boy for the first, time as well as other firsts, the two of them quickly become friends, and you can sense neither of them want this. The second summer is in Nathaniel's point of view and something happened over the winter, and he has changed, this summer is about him dealing with this, and the two of them trying to define their relationship some more. The third summer we are back to Charlotte and her take on everything, and the fourth summer back to Nathaniel. They try and try to get a relationship to work, but being so far away most of the year and both dealing with different things makes it hard, and as a reader you want to pull your hair out. When they finally get it right (or so they thought) something happens that drives Nathaniel away. The build up to getting back together really is my favorite part of this book. You see both of the characters growing and you cry with them, love with them, and stress out with them. This is a sweet read, and something different than what we normally review and read, but if you're looking for some "new adult/young adult" love and coming of age, without all the sex, this book is something you should definitely pick up, especially on a rainy day.

Four Summers edition by Nyrae Dawn Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I loved Charade, Freeing Carter and Measuring Up, so when I saw that Nyrae had a new release, I one clicked it right away.

This is a young adult book about self discovery. It is told in alternating POV with Charlotte and Nate.

Charlotte/Charlie lives in The Village and Nate's family goes there for a summer vacation. They meet the summer when they are 15 years old. I must admit, I don't usually read too many books with the characters being this young. But I was instantly sucked in. I remember all of those awkward feelings. Not understanding why being around a certain boy would make me feel physically ill - totally brought me back to my teen years.

Charlie's a bit of a tom boy and her older sister is beautiful and doesn't give her the time of day. Her mom is closer with her sister. Her dad is her biggest supporter, but also puts unfair pressure on her to help out more because her mom and sister don't help out. She wants to help her dad, but can't help feeling like she got stuck with the short end of the stick.

Her best friend is Alec and he lives in The Village year round with her. He loves it there and everyone just assumes that he and Charlie will end up together and take over The Village.

When Charlie meets Nate, she finds someone who really sees her. And he likes what he sees. But all they have is that summer.

Of course, Nate's family ends up coming back the next summer and the summer after that and they get to see each other grow up and change, but at the same time, they still have a connection.

Nyrae throws in a curveball with some of the other characters and of course there is confusion and a misunderstanding - because of course these kids are still in high school and are still learning how to communicate. Made me want to shake some sense into all of them. But they figure things out eventually.

I LOVED Charlotte and Nate!! And Alec!! And Brandon!!

There was romance, there was frustration, there was angst. What I love the most is when I can find a book that makes me feel like I'm not reading anymore, I'm living in the character's world for a little while.

Great job, Nyrae!!!
