Happily Bedded Bliss Rakes of Cavendish Square Tracy Anne Warren 9780451469236 Books
I liked this book - up until the end, when it felt like a rewrite of The Trouble with Princesses.Esme is the youngest of the Byron family and has caused a bit of a scandal by sketching a picture of a nude man - a man she doesn't know, but who is well known to her brothers. The man is Gabriel Landsdowne, Viscount Northcote. He is Leo & Lawrence's neighbor in Cavendish Square and a well known rake.
Esme's brothers are enraged when they see the sketch and hunt down Gabriel intent on avenging their sister. Esme swears she doesn't know the man - but they believe she is protecting him. When they find Gabriel - the scene is hilarious - all the brothers debating on what to do to him and Gabriel has no idea what they are talking about. They finally decide to let him live (LOL) and tell him he must marry Esme. Esme wants no part of this and it takes a bit of convincing (and kissing) on Gabriel's part to make her agree.
Once they are married and finally leave her family's home, I really liked their interaction and enjoyed the story. But all that comes to halt when they have a chance encounter with one of Gabriel's old friends. Gabriel changes into a total jerk and ignores Esme. Esme is understandably upset by the change in Gabriel and tries to make things right between them - she thinks things are back on track between them when he finally comes back to her bed. However the next morning she finds out that he has left her and returned to London with no indication of when he will be back. She is devastated and at first thinks of running home to her family - but decides to stay and wait it out. After a few weeks of being apart - she gets a surprise visit from his uncle and decides to make some sweeping changes at the estate and sets out to London to confront Gabriel.
Gabriel has been miserable without Esme - but he refuses to return to her. I usually dislike the once burned by a woman, therefore I cannot believe in love type of hero and that is exactly what Gabriel is - He is a jerk - but I can handle a jerk-hero as long as he is faithful to the heroine (which he is). So while his stupid-ness about love annoyed me - it still didn't make me hate him.
When Esme and Gabriel are reunited - it looked like things were going to work out - Gabriel seems to have accepted his love for Esme and glories in her love for him. But of course that would be too easy.
Gabriel turns into a jealous idiot and Esme withholds a secret from him - as sort of a test of his trust in her. Both of them were ridiculous - I would say Esme was more of an idiot this time than Gabriel was. And they have another estrangement. This is where the story becomes reminiscent of The Trouble with Princesses - I really don't know what would have happened with these two if Lawrence hadn't intervened - I would rather have seen them work things out without inference - each of them giving in a bit - but that is not how it happened.
This book was well written, flowed well and has some very steamy love scenes - but the ending fell a little flat for me. I would still recommend the book and I am glad I read it.

Happily Bedded Bliss Rakes of Cavendish Square Tracy Anne Warren 9780451469236 Books Reviews
Tracy Ann Warren continues her regency Byron series with Happily Bedded Bliss. Is it her very best in the series? No, but it is still an entertaining novel thanks to the chemistry between the two leads.
Youngest Byron Lady Esme is an artist and when she spies a very handsome man swimming in the nude she cannot help but draw his likeness. Unfortunately, her drawing is discovered by some gossiping ton members causing her and her family no small amount of scandal.
Gabriel the Viscount of Northcote is absolutely stunned when Esme’s older brothers show him the drawing. Gabriel had no idea that Esme was capturing his sleeping self. Her brothers demand a marriage and Gabriel is accommodating because even though he has cultivated a reputation as a libertine, he is not without some honor. Also Esme’s brothers will not back down.
Esme is not thrilled about a marriage to Gabriel. She has always wanted to marry for love and now her family is trying to force her to settle. She is quite unhappy and her youth and immaturity (she is only nineteen) are evident in her wrong assumptions about the scandal. In this portion of the story, Esme can almost be a little too spoiled. She is good hearted though. She takes in all kinds of abandoned and injured animals and it is her work with these creatures that give her a clue to Gabriel’s personality. She recognizes a wounded soul and this is what gives her hope for a future with Gabriel.
The leads embark on a passionate journey where Gabriel feels the pull toward Esme but fights it. He is drowning in her passion and love and he wants to protect himself from hurt. His past has shaped his views on family and his own perceived shortcomings. For him the struggle to maintain some semblance of emotional distance from Esme is trying on their relationship.
.
Both characters undergo a transformation. Gone is the coddled overly protected sister (Esme’s brothers are annoying and ridiculously arrogant, I never liked them in this story). Esme does not rely on anyone but herself to mend her relationship with Gabriel. Learning to trust is almost impossible for Gabriel, because those who should have cared for him have hurt him deeply. He cares for Esme but assurance in another’s actions is a different matter altogether. Can he have faith she will not hurt him? Sometimes Esme can be a little too stubborn and Gabriel too imperious and brooding but this does not reach a maddening level as this couple still finds roads back to each other.
