Eternal Captive is a great addition to the Mark of the Vampire series. Even though it's the third in the series it can be read as a standalone. Of course for better reading pleasure, I recommend reading the first two in the series.

Lucian Roman is a vampire whose father is a Breeding Male. He has the same father as his brothers Alexander and Nicholas but not the same mothers. Breeding Males fall into this odd category where they are reviled yet revered. They help populate the species and can impregnate on demand in addition to choosing the sex of the baby. Unfortunately they're also slaves to their needs and hunger and have to be kept locked up. Lucian has always been fearful that he carried the same gene as his father.(Breeding Males become sort of mindless `monsters' who need to mate and procreate whether the female consents or not.)

The woman he wants like no other, Bronwyn Kettler, has a deathly fear of being forced to go to a Breeding Male because her sister had to at their parents' orders and died after the male put two balas (children) in her. Her sister bled out and died because her body couldn't take it.

So right off these two have some serious conflicts to overcome. Add to that, Bronwyn is about to be mated to another male who is supposedly her `true mate'. However, the male she's supposed to mate with is just a really good friend and while they love each other it's not a romantic love. On the night of her wedding/mating ceremony she's kidnapped and sent to this other reality. Her mate and the Roman brothers, Lucian included, go searching for her. Lucian is dragged to this reality and is slowly becoming what he's always feared, a Breeding Male. Being around Bronwyn is only making it worse and they're forced to make a decision that changes their lives.

The romance that unfolds between these two is wonderful. Lucian is so rough around the edges and crass and Bronwyn loves that about him. She occasionally admonishes him but she never tries to change him. He uses his anger and smart mouth as a barrier but he's surprisingly gentle and sweet only with Bron. Seeing the layers of his personality and feelings emerge slowly made for a well developed hero. While I loved the romance in this story, it was also incredibly fast-paced. The race to find Cruen (the man behind both of them being taken) and the secondary scenes with Synjon (Bron's supposed true mate) and then Dillon, all added to the depth and intensity of this story. Even though this is a darker paranormal romance, there are some really comedic scenes from Lucian's point of view. There's a scene in the beginning where he pees on Bron's front step, basically marking his territory that had me laughing out loud. I can't rave enough what a great addition to the MOTV series this is and now I'm rabidly waiting for the next story!

Eternal Captive is the 3rd installment of the "Mark of the Vampire Series". For me this was the most complete book so far. The first installment Eternal Hunger in my opinion was an okay read. I loaned the book to my cousin and she was the one who really loved it and encouraged me to give the 2nd book a try. I am glad that I gave the series another chance or else I would have missed out on getting to know these new and delightful characters.

Luca was one of the characters who stood out for me in the first book and we got a delicious taste of his upcoming story in Nicky's book, so I just knew I had to buy Luca's book when it came out. Man was it worth the wait. This book hit the ground running and never let up. The storyline was fast paced, funny, exciting, and the sex scenes were HOT HOT HOT. Some have said that the sex scenes were too vulgar...eh..to each his own. I found them to be quite "Intense" and SATISFYING.

This is top notch story telling. Normally when an author has too many storylines going on in a book, I tend to get bored and skip pages when the story veers away for the main characters of the book. I honestly did not get bored when the author delved into other storylines like the Roman Patriarch and his true mate which is obviously Lucien's mother Maiden. I am sure that they will get their own story in the very near future (Fingers crossed). Dillon and Gray's story took us down a road I never saw coming, that she was really a Mutore and also a Roman sibling as well. Then there is still Synjon and Jules Story which I am also looking forward to reading as well. All of the characters in this series are interesting and colorful and it just made this book a complete joy to read.

Please don't sleep on the Mark of the Vampire series, I ALMOST DID! A few more installments like this one and it will be up there with the likes of Larissa Ione's the Demonica Series and Cresley Cole's Immortal after Dark series.
